What REALLY Motivates People

A great example of showing how we are each internally motivated (vs. external motivation) is by how we view a stop light. I could see it as a need to step on the brake or a need to step on the gas, depending on what is internally motivating me at the time. Same with the phone. If it rings (another example of external motivation), I may decide to answer it or choose to let it go to voice mail.

Working with a Coach will allow us to become aware of what pictures we have in mind of people/places/things/experiences that are need satisfying and thus, internally motivating. External motivation is always short lived (a moment, day, week, month or sometime years - i.e., school).

"What do you want?" is one question.  The answer  to, "What do you REALLY want?" is the one you're really after.

In Your Corner,

Phyllis Miller
